Back by popular demand, Jim Palmer—former chair of the Altamont School English Department, Alabama State Teacher of the Year, and a 40-year veteran educator—leads a thoughtful literary study of The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. Listed among the Modern Library’s 100 Best Novels of All Time and a Top 20 Novel of the 20th Century, this remarkable debut explores the lives of outcasts in a small Southern town with eloquence and compassion. As McCullers gives voice to those on the margins, participants will reflect on what Arthur Miller called “the holiness of the spirit of Man,” discovering the sacred within the lost and misunderstood.

Wednesday Nights: Jan. 7 - Feb. 4
Music Suite | 6:15 - 9 pm

The IPC Camerata and Choir gather each week through February 4 for rehearsal. IPC Camerata meets at 6:15 pm , followed by IPC Choir rehearsal at 7:00 pm to prepare music for worship and special events in the weeks ahead.

Wednesday Nights: Jan. 14 - April 29
Room 218 | 6 - 7 pm (optional dinner at 5:30 pm)

Join us in Room 218 each week at 6 pm to study God’s Word by looking at the sermon text for the upcoming Sunday. Rev. Long will facilitate discussion most weeks. If you would like to join us for dinner in the Great Hall at 5:30 pm, place your order by noon the Tuesday before the class.

This class continues the study of Christian Doctrine by Shirley Guthrie, a required reading in seminary that has introduced thousands of laity, students, and theologians to the tenets of the Christian faith. Guthrie, largely non-dogmatic, does not examine doctrine as a static, systematic mental exercise, but instead ties doctrine directly to the reality of life as lived in our society, our church, our homes, and our places of work and worship. It connects theology with the deeper questions we seek in life and invites the reader to question and reach their own conclusions: Does believing this cause conflict with my life? How? Why?

The registration fee is $20 and includes a cast t-shirt. Ten weekly Wednesday dinners are also available for $50.

The musical will take place during the Sunday School hour on Sunday, March 15, at 10:00 am in Highland Hall. A cast party will be held on Wednesday, March 18.
