Displayed during Lent
IPC Stairwell & Front Desk

Throughout Lent, we will display prayer requests in the church stairwell, which we are temporarily calling the "Prayerwell". This is a way for us to visually represent those who have touched our lives or who may need our prayers. To have someone's name displayed in the Prayerwell, please submit their first name only in the basket located at the front desk.

Each Sunday: March 9-April 13

Join us in the Courtyard after the 11 am worship services each Sunday, March 9, through Palm Sunday, April 13, for cookies and an opportunity to connect with your IPC Family of Faith.

Wednesdays: March 12-April 16
Chapel & the Great Hall

Join us on Wednesdays during Lent for a noonday worship service in the Chapel. After the service, you can enjoy a light lunch for $5 in the Great Hall. Please note that you only need to make a reservation if you plan to stay for lunch. The menu for the lunch will be soup and sandwiches, provided by Kim's Kitchen. Please make sure to reserve your spot for lunch by Tuesday at noon each week.

Wednesday Nights from March 12 through April 2

Nature Nurture: Our way to a Homegrown Habitat. Discover what is growing on in the Highland Avenue medians and how you, too, can nurture plots of beautiful flora and fauna native to Alabama. Plus: if you plant them, who will buzz by? Meet the masterminds behind Highland Park’s Homegrown Habitat, Mountain Brook’s sustainability initiatives, and the Bruno Vegetable plots at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. This class will be led by IPC Member and Certified Master Gardener Gail Pless.

Sunday, March 16 at 8:45 am, 11 am, and 5 pm services

All are welcome to join us during our annual Youth Sunday. Our youth (7-12th grade) have been diligently preparing since January to lead the congregation in all elements of worship during each service including preaching, music, liturgy, and more. We will also recognize our high school seniors and acolytes in the 11 am traditional service.

Join us on Monday, February 17 at 7 PM (doors open at 6 PM) at Iron City for Beer & Hymns! Beer & Hymns is exactly what it sounds like. We sing old-timey hymns (plus a few new ones) while enjoying good food and beverages.

The Annual Patricia Byrne Memorial Concert Series for organ and orchestra will begin on Tuesday, March 18 at 7 pm. This first concert will feature Ken Cowan from Rice University and 42 members of the Alabama Symphony performing exciting organ concertos by Josef Rheinberger and Joseph Jongen, and the hauntingly beautiful Adagio by Tomaso Albinoni.

The repertoire heard in these concerts is usually only heard in concert halls that contain a pipe organ large enough to be accompanied by an orchestra, i.e. Chicago, Philadelphia, etc. This unique series of concerts is presented as a gift to the city of Birmingham, and will feature our incredible Joseph W. Schreiber Memorial Organ and beautiful church. Come early to get a seat!

IPC's organ is given to the Glory of God and in loving memory of Joseph W Schreiber, who served Independent Presbyterian Church with excellence and dedication for 34 years.

As part of our commitment to furthering our mission partners, the third Sunday of each month is Moment for Mission Sunday. On March 23, IPC will recognize Spring Valley School and hear from their Executive Director, Laura Fiveash, DrPH, RD.

Spring Valley School empowers students with learning differences in grades 1-12. They help families and students realize their incredible strengths through academic interventions, building academic and social confidence, and teaching them how to advocate. With the continued generous grant support of IPC, Spring Valley School has extended its reach to provide an exceptional education experience to low-income, minority students with learning disabilities.
