The Upward Way class continues the study of Christian Doctrine by Shirley Guthrie, a required reading in seminary that has introduced thousands of laity, students, and theologians to the tenets of the Christian faith. Guthrie, largely non-dogmatic, does not examine doctrine as a static, systematic mental exercise, but instead ties doctrine directly to the reality of life as lived in our society, our church, our homes, and our places of work and worship. It connects theology with the deeper questions we seek in life and invites the reader to question and reach their own conclusions: Does believing this cause conflict with my life? How? Why?
Calling all book lovers! Join Nicole on February 23 at 5:30 pm in Room 303 for the first gathering of Books & Becoming, a once-a-month book club for anyone curious about how reading shapes faith, identity, and the way we live together. We will meet on the fourth Monday of each month to read across theology, memoir, and fiction, making space for thoughtful conversation, attentive listening, and shared reflection. Our first book will be My Body Is Not a Prayer Request: Disability Justice in the Church by Amy Kenny.

For Church Leaders, Educators & Ministry Volunteers
If you teach, lead, or care for children in the life of the church, this morning session is for you. Meredith will guide a conversation around how churches can thoughtfully and faithfully nurture children’s faith within the local church. Drawing on theology, experience, and best practices, this gathering invites participants to reflect on how worship, teaching, and shared community life shape faith over time, and how we can approach this work with care, clarity, and hope. Coffee and light breakfast bites will be available.

If you are walking alongside children in everyday moments, this evening session is for you. It is also a welcoming space for anyone who wants to reflect on their own experiences of faith and consider how faith is formed and examined over time. Drawing from her book Woven, Meredith offers encouragement that honors both the wonder of faith and the realities of daily life, helping adults see their everyday presence as meaningful and formative. Handheld snacks will be available during the reception. Childcare will be available for the evening session and is guaranteed for those who register by Sunday, March 1.
