Special Events

All IPC Youth and IPC Kids volunteers must attend a training. All trainings will be held in Great Hall Dining Room 1 and a meal will be provided. Trainings are on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 10 am and 12 pm.

September 24
IPC Sanctuary

A meeting of IPC is hereby called for Sunday, Sept. 24, to be convened with the opening prayer at the 11 am worship service in the sanctuary. The business meeting will begin immediately following the worship service.

The purposes of the meeting are to elect Elders and Deacons for the class of 2026; a Youth Elder and a Youth Deacon to serve one-year terms, beginning February 1, 2024, and ending January 31, 2025; a President and Vice President of the Congregation; members of the IPC Foundation Board of Directors for the class of 2026; and members of the Representative Nominating Committee for the class of 2026.

Join us for a three-part series: “Poverty and Barriers to Prosperity” continuing on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 5:30 - 7:15 pm in Great Hall 1. Manisha Mishra, Deputy Director of Alabama Possible, will lead us in discussing their recent Barriers to Prosperity: Data Sheet 2023.

Michelle Farley, Executive Director of One Roof, will conclude the series on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 5:30 - 7:15 pm in Great Hall 1. She will lead a more focused discussion on efforts to equip and empower our community to prevent and end homelessness through advocacy, education, and coordination of services and will be joined by Minister Debra Blaylock, Faith Chapel Christian Center.

IPC Wednesday Night Dinner is available for these programs. Please order by Tuesday at noon of each week.

The recent expansion includes 256 additional niches with 192 double and 64 single niches. You may purchase a niche for yourself or a loved one.

The 2023 Fall Grace Groups will explore the intriguing and sometimes perplexing Book of Revelation during a book study on Breaking the Code: Understanding the Book of Revelation by Bruce M. Metzger and revised by David A. DeSilva. Thank You Books has the book available for purchase so visit 5502 Crestwood Blvd to purchase your copy! Each small group will meet over the course of 6 weeks (weeks of October 8 - November 12) at various times and locations. Grace Groups offer an opportunity for spiritual growth and inner community connection, reminding us that you don’t have to go at it alone.

Living River Retreat

The presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley youth council is hosting a presbytery retreat October 7-8 at Living River! All youth are welcome to join us for an overnight trip. Our group will depart from IPC 9:00am Saturday (10/7) morning and return Sunday (10/8) between 11:30-12:00pm. Living River is our presbytery's camp located about an hour south of IPC.

At 4 pm, we will offer an Evensong featuring the choir and violinist Daniel Szasz. With music spanning from 10th-century chant to the year 2020, this is the perfect time to come, be still, and rest in the Heart of God.

IPC Parking Lot

Kick off our annual Harvest for Hunger campaign with a family-friendly Crop Drop on Sunday, Oct. 15. All ages 5 and up are invited to help sack 16.5 tons of sweet potatoes for our neighbors who struggle with food insecurity.

A limited number of Crop Drop t-shirts are available for sale on the sign-up link.

As part of our commitment to furthering our mission partners, the third Sunday of each month is now Moment for Mission Sunday. In October, we will kickoff the Annual Harvest for Hunger campaign and learn more about the impact of your food donations.

4th-6th Graders are invited to share a meal, have fellowship and work on a mission project together! M4 allows our oldest children to glance at what their routine in Youth Group will look like when they reach 7th grade. In October, we will assist with IPC's Annual Crop Drop.

Join your IPC friends and meet new ones with Beer & Hymns at Iron City. Beer & Hymns is exactly what it sounds like. We sing old-timey hymns (plus a few new ones) while enjoying good food and beverages. Doors are open from 6 - 8 pm, and music begins at 7 pm.

Centennial Celebration and Fall Festival
Join us for a churchwide event featuring live music by the Table worship band, fun games for kids, a hayride, and a dedication ceremony to celebrate 100 years of ministry at the Farm. Dinner is served at 5 pm. Sign up coming soon!

This exciting weekend, for children in Kindergarten to 5th grade, is packed with opportunities to have fun, bond with peers, and deepen your faith. This year's theme is “Do Justice, Love Kindness, Walk Humbly with God”.

2023 Home Build
Construction Begins Sept. 14

We are helping to build a home in Pleasant Grove for the Tolbert family alongside fellow Birmingham-area churches in the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley starting Sept. 14. IPC volunteer days are planned for Sept. 14, 16, 22 & 30; Oct. 21; and Nov. 3 & 11.

Registration Info
No construction experience is necessary, but you do have to be at least 14 years old. Please register with Habitat using access code presby23. Once registered, complete the waiver (there’s an additional waiver for 14-17 year olds), and then choose your volunteer work date.

NEW! Provide Sack Lunches
Sign up to provide a simple sack lunch for our Habitat for Humanity volunteers. We will only need about 12 lunches and no need to provide drinks. Please bring lunches to the worksite by noon.

Volunteer with your family or a group to provide evening meals for the women and children staying at First Light. IPC will be providing evening meals each night for the week of Nov. 12-18.
